Buffalo Trail

I'm still in Princeton, WV at the moment, experiencing snow and cold temperatures.  It's been a fun stopover though, because I've been able to see friends and family.  One of the things I have believed about being in Princeton though is that there are few places to go to eat that are not part of national chains.  Applebee's, Chili's, and Outback Steakhouse are all located here, but there are few places which provide real local color.

However, last night, my cousins, Ryan, Paige, and Crystal, took me to a restaurant that changed that view.  It's called Buffalo Trail.  It's in Bluewell, WV, and if my cousins hadn't known where it was, I never would have found it.  The restaurant is well off the beaten path.

Interestingly, it's right on the Hatfield and McCoy 4-wheeler trail, and is almost a resort.  It has a number of cabins available for rent, and, from what I could see, they looked nice.

The restaurant itself had a lot of personality, and left it to its patrons to create their own meals.  There were a lot of options for creating a burger, so, that's what I did.  I had a bison burger with pepper jack cheese, mustard, hot buffalo sauce, pickles, banana peppers, and jalapenos.  I also had a side of the best mac 'n cheese that I've had in a restaurant.  The bar is well stocked with liquor and beer, and there is a wide selections of mixed drinks.  The restaurant had the standard beer choices, but also offered locally brewed selections.  There was definitely a lot of local color at Buffalo Trail.  If (for some reason) you find yourself in Princeton or Bluefield, West Virginia, you can't do much better than Buffalo Trail.  It even had a fire pit and outside dining area (for when the weather is not freezing).

Have a look.

I was told by our waitress that there would be another bar opening in April, and that the owner was going to start brewing and selling his own beer.  I look forward to trying that beer the next time I'm in this area.

It was definitely a fun night.
