Washington, DC *UPDATED*

I spent the morning and early afternoon wandering around DC.  There's a lot to see and do here.  I rode the Metro down.  I got a bit lost, and saw more of DC than I had originally planned.  That's okay though, that's what this trip is all about.

There's a lot of interesting architecture here.  It's a mix of modern and historical.  After a fair bit of wandering (and more than a little rain). I made it to the National Mall and the Smithsonian Museums of American and Natural History.  The Washington Monument is pretty impressive.

Interestingly, the Smithsonian Museum of American History had an exhibit showcasing the history of transportation.  There was an exhibit about the first men to drive a car cross-country, which is what I'm doing.  I took a picture.

At the Museum of Natural History, I saw the bones of dinosaurs, an elephant, and a huge blue whale.

I think the anti-science crowd would be upset to learn where a small amount of their tax dollars are going if they ever bothered to visit the museum.  We all know how much that group hates the idea of evolution.

Finally, I went to the National Gallery of Art.  There's a fountain right when you walk into the Gallery.

I wish I had more time there, but I think I will go back tomorrow for another look.

*UPDATE*

I went back to the National Gallery of Art the next day.  This was probably my favorite painting, but there were a lot of great works of art.

There were a lot of great works there.  When I was done, I went to the Sculpture Garden next door.

This was a pretty awesome sculpture.  It moved when you did.  The angles changed when you walked around.  It was pretty trippy.

However, I'm still trying to figure out how this next one counts as art.  It's literally a metal square.  How is this a sculpture?  Does anyone have an answer?

I did like this next one though.  It was kind of fun.

DC is pretty awesome.
